Plenty of laughs at Recovery Comedy Night
More than 200 people attended a sold-out Comedy Night on Friday, 19 May 2017 in the Seán O’Casey Community Centre, East Wall, Dublin 3. The Comedy Night was one of a series of ‘drug and alcohol free’ social events organised by the Recovery Academy of Ireland.
Three excellent local comedians, Willa White, John Colleary and Steve Cummins, performed to an appreciative audience during the fun-filled night. The comedians who are more used to performing on the cabaret circuit and in venues like the Laughter Lounge found the audience respectful and engaged, far more so they said than in the usual venues.
Tickets were €10 and refreshments were served at a low price so it was an affordable night out for all.
The Comedy Night came a week after a successful pop-up Recovery Café, also organised by the Recovery Academy of Ireland. It proves the support which the Academy enjoys among those in recovery but, more importantly, highlights the need for recovery social supports in the Dublin area.
The Academy is now looking for volunteers for forthcoming activities including the 6th National Recovery Walk which will take place in Dublin on 9 September 2017. An organising committee will meet in Soilse, Henrietta Place on Monday, 29 May at 6pm. All interested groups and individuals are welcome.
The Recovery Academy comprises people in recovery, supporters, advocates, researchers and professionals who want to promote the concept of recovery, develop research on recovery, provide support for those in recovery and organise recovery social activities.
