Who are we?

At Recovery Academy Ireland, we are a diverse community of individuals united by a shared purpose. Our team includes people in recovery, dedicated supporters, passionate advocates, experienced researchers, and committed professionals — all working together to champion the concept of recovery.

We believe that recovery is not only possible but achievable for everyone. Backed by international research, we know that people can transition from relying on addiction services to living lives filled with purpose, fulfillment, and active participation in society.

Our mission is to inspire, support, and empower individuals on this journey. By fostering a culture of hope, learning, and opportunity, we aim to help people build meaningful lives beyond addiction.

Claire Naughton

Claire Naughton

National Coordinator

Claire joined the Recovery Academy of Ireland as National Coordinator in November 2022. She is passionate about promoting addiction recovery and challenging the stigma surrounding it.
With over a decade of experience in homeless services, Claire specialised in developing recovery-focused residential programs that address the unique and complex needs of women transitioning from treatment. Her work is deeply informed by her own lived experience of addiction and recovery, giving her a unique perspective and genuine empathy in supporting others on their recovery journeys. She is dedicated to creating initiatives that empower individuals to build both personal and community recovery capital, ensuring they have the support needed to sustain long-term recovery.
Claire studied Addiction Studies at Maynooth University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Addiction Recovery at Trinity College Dublin.
Triona Byrne

Triona Byrne

Recovery Community Development Officer

Tríona joined the Recovery Academy in 2023 after working with our partner the Dublin North, North East Recovery College on a project regarding the development of a community response to Dual Diagnosis (Mental Health and substance use). Tríona has lived experience of supporting family members with mental health and substance use issues, leading her to become curious about the different pathways to Recovery that are accessible to not only individuals but family members. Tríona received a bachelor’s degree in Community and Youth Work from the University of Maynooth in 2022. Coming from a community development perspective, Tríona strongly feels the process is equally if not more important than the end goal in achieving transformation for individuals and communities. She is committed to using this approach to build solidarity within communities to act collectively for change. Triona will work with the Recovery Academy as a Recovery Community Development officer. In this role Triona will be able to use her skills and knowledge of community development practice to build a community that supports and celebrates Recovery through the Promotion of Recovery initiatives. Using the Community Development principles of collectivity, participation and community empowerment, Triona will bring together the community so that individuals and family members can access community wide support when entering a journey of Recovery. Ultimately, working towards the goal of building personal and community Recovery Capital. Triona is passionate about ending stigma for individuals who are or have experienced substance use and mental health issues, she believes this can be done by #makingrecoveryvisible.

Julie Brady

Julie Brady

Recovery Coach Team Leader

Julie Brady joined the Recovery Academy of Ireland in 2025 a Team Leader, bringing over 12 years of hands-on experience as a skilled recovery coach. Hailing from a disadvantaged area in Dublin’s North Inner City, Julie has a unique and deeply personal perspective on addiction and recovery, having navigated her own journey through these challenges.
Julie has worked extensively with women accessing rehabilitation services and continued to support them through residential transition recovery, guiding them in their path toward long-term healing and stability. An early school leaver, Julie firmly believes that education is the key to empowerment and positive change. She emphasizes that with the right support and guidance, anyone can turn their life around.
Julie holds a QQI Level 8 in Recovery Coaching and a QQI Level 7 in Community Drugs and Alcohol, qualifications that reflect her deep commitment to the field. Through her work at the Recovery Academy, Julie continues to lead by example, guiding individuals on their own paths to recovery with compassion, knowledge, and unwavering support.
